Recent data released by the North Australian Geochemical Survey show potential copper belts on the border between Queensland and the Northern Territory. In an interview, North Australian Senator Canavan said that the surface soil samples collected showed that the area may contain potentially high-grade copper, zinc, and nickel ore. Canavan also stated that the latest data show that the mineralization in the basin may be three times the previous measurement range. Based on these results, the Northern Australian Minister of Resources stated that most of the areas between Tennant Creek and Mount Isa, which are well-known mining centers, have huge potential for mining development.
